We use Kiosk PCs to show Grafana and third party dashboards on large monitors in our offices.

The Kiosk PCs are low cost mini PCs from eBay, sporting an Intel N95 with “Intel(R) UHD Graphics”.

When we leave the office in the evening, we turn off the monitors to save some power but leave the mini PC running for auto updates.

When turning the monitors back on, they were showing only half the display, split in half vertically. The left hand blank with 50% of the picture shown on the right side.

Fixing Link to heading

We tried all sorts of software changes, driver updates, but in the end it came down to a £15 hardware fix - an EDID Emulator from Amazon. I chose the 1080P version as the displays aren’t 4K.

The “Emulator” seems to lock-in the Extended Display Identification Data. When the display switches on now, it shows the image just like it did the day before.

Our remote office also report that the display no longer “flickers”.
